Tunes for Tuesday: Keeping You Alive

It's important for me that my main characters have strong family or social ties, partly because few things read flatter to me than protagonists whose lives seem to revolve entirely around people they met 30 pages ago.

But the woman I'm writing about now may be clinging too strongly to those ties. She took on a major responsibility at a young age, and she looks on new roles and opportunities as distractions from that task. She never took the time to figure out what kind of life she wanted for herself. So of course I'm going to heap new and unavoidable responsibilities on her shoulders while aiming deadly drama at the person she's sworn to keep safe.
