Why I Blog

Someone recently asked me if my blog has a theme, and I was surprised to realize that I had an answer.

I post a lot about my writing process, and while I'm hardly an expert on the subject, writing about writing helps me think about and refine the way I work. I also find value in putting pressure on myself by being so public about how I'm doing.

I post about books because there are never enough hours in the day to read. I've also posted about movies, music, travel, art, and games. I've posted about day-to-day events and things that entertain, annoy, or inspire me. I know that's pretty broad.

The common thread is stories. I'm kind of obsessed with them. When I read or watch a movie, I'm always searching for that next great character or plot twist to fall for. Part of my anticipation of a trip or a fun day out is that today's activities are tomorrow's tales to tell.

So I guess the theme of my blog is that inspiration is everywhere. Each new experience has value in its own right, but it's also a potential source of things that could make their way into my manuscript. Blogging helps me to capture those ideas and influences in a fun, motivational way, and I feel like I've gotten a lot out of it.
