This Week in Links | July 6, 2012

Here are some of the interesting posts I saw this week:
  • Non-European Fantasy by Women
This is a huge list of fantasy novels by women whose settings drew inspiration from non-European influences. I've been interested in varying my reading more lately, so this might be a good place to start.
  • Cathi Unsworth: women and noir
A crime fiction novelist reflects on the history of the noir novel and the experience of women authors in the genre. It was a fascinating read, especially considering my recent Chandler & Hammett kick.
  • 88 books that shaped America, at the Library of Congress
If you don't see your favorite influential American book on the list, there's a link to a Library of Congress survey that lets you vote among the current list and tell them what you'd add.
  • Mermaids Confirmed (To Not Exist)
NOAA wants us to know there's no evidence that mermaids are real.
