in praise of momentum

A couple of months ago, my progress had slowed to a crawl. Between holidays and travel and a million other distractions, I'd stare at my computer screen and feel grateful if I could scrape together even half my usual word count goal.

Once things settled down, I took a few weeks to work out some back-end stuff about my plot and make some new outlines, and then I did an edit pass to square things up with the decisions I'd made.

All that must have kickstarted me somehow, because I've been feeling much better about my direction and progress recently. The good writing days are starting to pile up again, and it's been much easier for me to connect with things once I sit down to work.

I'd almost forgotten what that felt like.

(It feels awesome.)
